Dr. Amir Ali Salemi attended the Al-Attiyah Foundation’s 1st CEO Roundtable Meeting of 2025, held in Doha on January 21, 2025. The event, titled “Balancing Economic Growth and Climate Action in the Energy Sector,” brought together senior industry leaders, policymakers, and international experts to exchange views on critical challenges shaping the future of energy and sustainability.
Held under the Chatham House Rule, the high-level discussion explored the urgent need for cross-sector collaboration to drive the energy transition forward. Innovation and technology were emphasized as key enablers for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with participants highlighting that global investments in clean energy reached $1.7 trillion in 2023. The conversation also addressed the policy and regulatory frameworks necessary to align corporate strategies with climate targets, noting that over 130 countries have committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The panel further discussed investment models capable of promoting sustainable economic growth without compromising environmental priorities, with projections suggesting that transitioning to a low-carbon economy could create up to 30 million new jobs worldwide by 2030. Speakers also delved into the complexities of the clean energy transition, including supply chain constraints, workforce reskilling, and infrastructure modernization.
The distinguished panel of speakers featured international experts such as Janos Pasztor, former Assistant Secretary for Climate Change at the United Nations; Ovais Sarmad, former Deputy Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and UN Assistant Secretary-General; Professor Jacopo Torritti, Professor of Economics and Policy at Reading University; and Creon Butler, Director of the Global Economy and Finance Programme at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House.
Speaking after the session, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Ibrahim, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Attiyah Foundation, expressed his appreciation to all member companies and participants. He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to fostering dialogue and providing independent insights to address global energy and sustainability challenges. Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that achieving a low-carbon future will require strategic partnerships between governments, businesses, and financial institutions to scale up renewable energy investments.
