Al-Attiyah Foundation’s 2nd CEO Roundtable Meeting of 2024 was held on June 6th, 2024. Top decision-makers, internationally renowned experts, and dignitaries came together to examine the factors affecting energy security now and in the future.

The high-profile event, titled ‘Energy Security: Future Demand and Promising Options’ moderated by Axel Threlfall, brought together prominent experts to discuss critical energy security issues. Speakers included former UK Minister Charles Hendry, UN Energy Division Director Dario Liguti, Middle East Institute CEO Paul Salem, ERM Partner Adam Chase, and BCG Managing Director Juan Vazquez.

The panel examined the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on Europe's energy supply, highlighting the shift from Russian gas to alternative sources such as Norway and increased LNG imports. This transition has accelerated Europe’s renewable energy adoption, with wind power now contributing 19% to the EU electricity mix, reducing gas demand and CO2 emissions.

The discussion also addressed the global challenge of rising energy demand and the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions. His Excellency Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah emphasized the importance of reliable and affordable energy access in today’s complex energy landscape.
